TRAVEL
FLIGHTS
You can fly into Marrakech directly or you can fly to Casablanca (more direct flight options from the U.S.) and drive approximately two and a half hours to Marrakech.
The drive between the Casablanca airport and Marrakech is easy highway driving; however, we recommend only experienced drivers drive within the cities themselves.
Be prepared for a lot of roundabouts and not a lot of rules.
If you speed, you will get a ticket; however, it will likely only cost you $15 USD (so do with that what you will).
ACCOMMODATIONS
Riads - there are beautiful riads (traditional houses with interior courtyards, many of which operate as bed and breakfasts) throughout the city
Barcelo Palmeraie Oasis Resort - a solid and close option to the venue
Ksar Char-Bagh - a lovely boutique hotel close to the venue
Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech - vast golf property with some wonderful restaurants; a bit farther
La Mamounia - the most famous hotel in Marrakech for good reason
to DO
JARDIN MAJORELLE & MUSÉE YVES SAINT LAURENT
This gorgeous property includes a hectare of specialized botanical landscaped gardens. Originally created by French artist Jacques Majorelle, the property was later restored by Yves Saint Laurent & Pierre Bergé. The YSL museum right next door is also worth a stop. Be sure to get tickets online to the gardens and museum ahead of time.
TEA AT LA MAMOUNIA
Explore the gardens outside before having tea in one of their beautiful tea rooms. If you find yourself staying late enough, the Churchill Bar may be one of the most fabulous places on earth to have a cocktail or glass of champagne (straight from the ice bucket built into the bar). Elegant attire required at all times.
JEMAA EL-FNAA SQUARE
A large shopping square and one of the most famous areas in the medina to shop for local handicrafts, clothing, spices, home goods, and other treasures. Shopping in the medina is not for the faint of heart; keep your wits about you, leave valuables at home, and be sure to drive a hard bargain. “La, shukran” means “no, thank you” in Arabic.
BACHA COFFEE
A legendary cafe nestled inside Dar el Bacha Palace. Dozens of pages of coffees to choose from and interesting history on the sources of each coffee. The surrounding museum is also worth a stroll (and a few pictures). We recommend splitting an order of the homemade churros with your coffee.
ATLAS MOUNTAINS & KASBAH BAB OURIKA
If looking for a bit of adventure, we recommend heading out for a day trip to the mountains. Kasbah Bab Ourika is a lovely hotel in the mountains offering stunning views, gardens, and a cute shop. If you don’t stay overnight there, you can stop in for a delicious lunch and wander the property.
